This year's Spondon Social Safari delivered another fantastic weekend of socialising and fundraising all around the village back in July. Organiser Roy Battelle looks back at the event:
"Congratulations to all 25 participants who opened their gardens and properties to be host to the many Safari travellers. This annual event goes from strength to strength, this year raising over £5,200 for participants’ various charities.
"We were entertained by many variants of interest, with Cream Teas, Champagne Breakfast, Crown Green Bowling tuition, many attractive gardens all offering refreshments of some description, we even had a 40s themed weekend by Sandra and Russ including a Saturday evening concert by the Boneti Sisters performing songs made famous by the Andrew Sisters: this ‘Stop’ alone made £1,250.
"The weekend culminated in an evening BBQ on the lawns of the Grade I listed ‘Homestead’ hosted by mine hosts Phil and Julia, it was attended by over 300 raising over £500.
"Many individual charities benefited with over £1,100 of the total being donated to The Village Improvement Committee who do such a lot to enhance the appearance of our Village.
"The weather was perfect and over 2,000 stops were recorded as Villagers traversed around enjoying friendly hospitality which is a speciality of our Community. "On behalf of joint organiser Melanie Griffiths and myself, a great big thank you if you were one of those people who travelled the Safari route."
Roy visited each of the Safari stops this year to take photos, which you can view in the gallery below:
