Celanese Clarifoil volunteers help improve the local community

Volunteers from Clarifoil, the diacetate films business of Celanese, recently worked with Spondon Community Association, Derby City Parks and the Spondon Neighbourhood Board to identify a project to improve the Spondon community.

18 employees spent two days on 23rd and 24th September clearing the seating area just off Sitwell Street next to Spondon library.  The work involved clearing shrubs, self-set trees, over grown ivy, litter, debris, weeding the block paving, sanding and repainting the two benches.

Clarifoil HR Manager, Gemma Tovey, said: "We were amazed at how much the two teams managed to achieve on the first day alone, for some of them this was the first ever chance to work together.  It was a great sense of achievement for all involved, we’re looking forward to another worthwhile project next year!"

The team completed the project in just two days, a day ahead of schedule, and even did some extra clearing in the top right hand corner of the grassed area at the back of the library.  The area is now all ready for planting in the Spring, and the team hopes there won’t be too many weeds growing back over the winter.
