There are a number of chances to get out and about in the local Spondon area over Spring and Summer with a series of walks around the area.
The walks are guided, free of charge and give you a chance to see parts of Spondon and the surrounding area that you may not otherwise normally explore.
The walk dates are as follows:
Friday 27th May: Nature Reserve Walk
Take a fantastic Spring evening's walk around Spondon's West Park Nature Reserve along with other nearby conservation areas. Meet at Church Street car park at 7pm.
Friday 10th June: Dale Road Park and Ockbrook Walk
Join the Community Association on this guided evening walk, beginning with a tour around Dale Road Park including an explanation of the SCA's current plans for rejuvenating the area. The walk then continues along footpaths from the park to Ockbrook, with a highly-likely stop over at the Royal Oak in Ockbrook before returning to Spondon. Meet at Dale Road Park car park at 7pm.
Friday 24th June: SCA Midsummer Ramble
The annual guided walk by the SCA starts at 7pm from the Vernon Arms on Locko Road and ends at the Royal Oak, Ockbrook with a pit stop at the Carpenter’s Arm, Dale Abbey.
Saturday 2 July 2011: Canal Walk
The now-annual walk along the canal route begins from Spondon, meeting at the B&Q car park at 10am. The initial walk will end at the Navigation Inn, Breaston around lunchtime. From there, enthusiastic walkers can carry on to Sandiacre or Long Eaton while others may choose to return immediately back to Spondon. There are buses for the return from Breaston, Sandiacre or Long Eaton plus trains from Long Eaton depending on timings. Advance booking is required on this walk. Email [email protected] to book your place.
In addition to these walk dates, the "Spondon Strollers" club meet every Wednesday at 9.15am outside Spondon Village Hall for short, sociable walks. New walkers are always welcome.
