SPONDON DAY 2014

Spondon Day is Saturday 28th June 2014, with a whole host of fun and entertainment in the village centre throughout the day!

Following on from the great success of last year, the Village Rejuvenation team have organised another fantastic event for all the family - and this year there is going to be even more to enjoy and celebrate.

Spondon's Got Talent!

Sitwell Street is going to be the main focus, and there are going to be lots of events in the Precinct as well. One of the key events will be Spondon's Got Talent - a showcase of talent on the stage in Sitwell Street.  This is the chance for everyone from Spondon, and further afield, to show what they've got, with three categories, under 11, 11 to 16 and over 16s.

There will be trophies (donated by the Liberal Club) for the winners of each category, presented by Pauline Latham, MP. Top musical act in the “over 16” category gets a free 4 hour recording session with local producer, Ben Haynes.

Entry forms for Spondon's Got Talent are available from various village businesses - look out for the posters in shop windows - so come and have fun! (Closing date for entries is 15th June)

Discounts with the Spondulix currency!

Spondon's very own currency is back once again for the day, this time in the guise of the 2014 Spondulix! Buy your Spondulix at Alexander & Co on Chapel Street during the day to get great value through the day in shops and businesses throughout the village. Each Spondulix will cost you 90p and is then worth £1 in participating businesses - effectively giving you a 10% discount on anything you buy with them. Great value, from all those great shops and businesses that serve you so well all year round.

Chances to win!

There will be a free prize draw for a great prize donated by all the businesses and shops, and also a competition with great prizes. Be there on the day to find out more!

Lots of fun for everyone!

Also throughout the day, you'll also find:

  • kid's rides in the Liberal Club Car Park
  • a Vet Masterclass and Pets Corner in the precinct
  • street entertainment, face painting and live music throughout the village
  • guided history walks
  • a variety of craft and food stalls behind the village hall
  • more stalls behind Spondon Bakery, including "Van's Bazaar!"
  • stalls from local groups and organisations inside the village hall along with refreshments and toilets available to the public
  • children's craft activities in the library

All the Village car parks will be open, but as you know, they fill up very quickly so please try and use public transport or visit on foot where possible. Sitwell Street WILL BE CLOSED (except for access) from the White Swan Island to the Willowcroft Road Island. All the buses will be diverted.
