Spondon Community Association extend a big welcome to all residents to our forthcoming Social Safari on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July.
We are very pleased to say that the number of residents who offered to be a ‘stop’ along the Safari route this year has increased. Those who have travelled the Safari route in previous years speak warmly of the Community spirit and the warm welcome offered along the route.
We have a varied selection of interests along the way with cream teas, crafts and alphabet puzzles for primary age children, bric-a-brac stalls, card making and spinning demos to name a few. You can also try crown green bowling, there’s amateur photograph demos and jewellery sales, plus lots of lovely gardens and many more interests - or just a simple cuppa and a chat. The Homestead on Sitwell Street is also one of the stops on the Safari, hosting tours of the property on Saturday and a BBQ and fun evening on the Sunday. Click for more details.
The event is primarily to build on the already-good community spirit we enjoy around the Village but also a method of collecting for your favourite charity. We are very honoured this year that the Mayor of Derby will open the weekend safari activities on Saturday 19th at 10.30am at The Homestead.
The free Safari programme giving addresses and opening times of each 'Safari Stop' can be downloaded below. Printed copies are also available in many local shops and the library and post office or call Roy Battelle on 722858 or John Fooks on 670286 for more info. Safari ‘stops’ will also be marked by posters and balloons
The Safari is an open invitation for all to partake over the weekend. It’s a Social occasion so join in the community spirit of the event and get out there Safari hunting!
