Home Energy team hand out water butts to lucky Spondon winners

Following on from their success at the Big 1 at Chaddesden Park in June, Derby City Council’s Climate Change Team has been out and about again with their Energy Roadshow, this time at Spondon Day on 28th June.

The team were out offering home energy and water saving advice to residents, talking to people about reducing energy and water costs, installing water meters, renewable energy and insulation. People were also encouraged to take part in a ‘Win a Water-butt’ competition, with a 240-litre water butt on offer to the winner (prizes kindly donated by Severn Trent Water).

The winners have been picked and the lucky recipients are both from Spondon - Juliette Hayward of Merchant Avenue and Alma Dawson of Dale Lane (pictured right with Severn Trent Water Renewable Energy Projects Specialist Jon Beeson).

Helen Carter, Home Energy Advice Officer for Derby City Council said “Using a water butt to collect rainwater is a great way to save energy and water and is great for the environment. If you are on a meter it could also potentially reduce the cost of your water bill as well so we are really pleased to be able to offer these prizes to residents.

There will be one more opportunity to enter the ‘Win a Water Butt’ competition and that will be at the Alvaston Park Sunday Funday on 27th July. Officers from Derby City Council will be on hand from 12pm until 4pm to offer advice on home energy and water saving. So why not go along to see how you can take advantage of energy and water saving schemes at home.
