School reunion raises more than £1,500 for good causes

A recent reunion of former Spondon School pupils has helped to raise a total of £1,521, which has been shared equally between three local causes.

The Class of 1979 Reunion was held in October at the Spot venue in Derby. Over 150 tickets were sold for the night, with people travelling from as far away as Australia, USA, Dubai, Canada and France to celebrate the 35th anniversary.

Cheques each for £507 have been presented to Spondon Youth Club and Young Parents, Spondon Friends of Treetops Hospice and the Finley Cooper wheelchair fund.

One of the event organisers, Angie Doughty, said: "We wanted all the money to stay local so we decided to divide it equally between these three great causes."
