Road Safety Campaign in Spondon primary schools

Neighbourhood Officer Sonia Hardy together with PCSO Tom Sheridan and PCSO James Bennett of the Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team have been visiting local schools recently to talk about road safety.

Sonia said: "The team visited four Spondon primary schools; Asterdale, Borrow Wood, Springfield and St Werburgh’s, during Road Safety Week in November 2014 and helped over 400 children learn the importance of road safety.

"With the focus being 'STOP-LOOK-LISTEN' and 'BE BRIGHT AND BE SEEN', I personally witnessed children from Asterdale and St Werburgh’s being educated by PCSO Tom Sheridan in a fun, interactive and highly effective manner. It was clear from the exercise that the children took part in at the end of the session and from the questions they were asking throughout that they had taken the message on board.

"I loved the look of delight on their faces when they were presented with a clip-on reflective road safety badge, funded by the Spondon Neighbourhood Board, at the end of the session.

"I’m sure you will agree it is vital to introduce the importance of road safety at an early age."
