The first in a series of new booklets about Spondon Past and Present has been launched in a joint venture between Spondon Historical Society and the Village Improvement Committee.
“Spondon Clubs & Societies” is the first volume in the new “Spondon Archive” series. Edited by Reg Pugh, it includes contributions from 26 Spondon organisations, charting their history and current activities as well as photographs past and present.
The booklet is on sale, priced £2.50, from various village businesses including Mark Davis Opticians, Housley's Chemists, Little Treats and D-label.
Future booklets will include other new original material along with re-publications of existing documents with an objective of making them available to a wider audience. The next booklet in the series, out soon, looks at the history of Spondon’s oldest public house, the Malt Shovel.
