The popular Spondon Social Safari event is back for another year in 2015, taking place over the weekend of Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July.
The annual event sees locals opening their gardens and driveways and inviting the community in and those who have travelled the Safari route in previous years speak warmly of the Community spirit and the warm welcome offered during the event. 2014's event also helped to raise more than £3,500 for good causes.
Last year’s Safari route featured a varied selection of refreshments, activities and interests including cream teas, crafts and alphabet puzzles for primary age children, bric-a-brac stalls, card making and spinning demos to name a few. There was also crown green bowling, amateur photograph demos and jewellery sales, plus lots of lovely gardens and many more interests. The Homestead on Sitwell Street was also one of the stops on the Safari, hosting tours of the property and a BBQ and fun evening.
Describing the event, organiser Roy Battelle said: "The Safari is not about pristine gardens or patios but very much a Community Social event with the emphasis on a social atmosphere, entertaining with a cup of tea or a hobby you have is sufficient. Give it a go, it’s a great Community event."
