A wide variety of exciting events will be taking place in Spondon to celebrate the Queens Jubilee in June. A Committee of local residents, businesses and a variety Spondon organisations, are busy putting together a weekend of activities for all The Jubilee weekend, from 1st to 4th June, will culminate in the lighting of the Jubilee beacon at Dale Road Park on the Monday evening. Spondon has already registered its beacon with the official organisers. Also as part of the celebrations, the Village Improvement Committee’s summer planting will, of course, be on a red, white and blue theme and that the Traders’ Association will be “flying the flags” for the weekend – one of which will be the new Spondon flag designed as part of the Trader's recent competition.

Friday 1st June
Spondon Cricket Club Juniors Fun Run Family evening of fun and fundraising at Spondon Cricket Club in aid of CRY and Cricket Club Funds. Starts at 6.30pm. Fun Run open to all juniors aged under 15. "This is not a race to finish first; the race is to raise the most sponsorship!" Other events on the night include a bar, BBQ and old school games such as Egg and Spoon, 3 Legged races, Wheelbarrow and Sack Races (including Parents v Kids!) Saturday 2nd June
Jubilee Family Fun Day Spondon Festival committee team up with Bank Bar and Asda for this family fun day, including a street party and teddy bears' picnic with lunch for the children at £1.50 per child. Lots of other free entertainment on offer including bouncy castle, face painting, stalls, childrens rides and more from 12noon - 5pm. Also confirmed are Bollywood Dancers plus a large adult-sized inflatable obstacle course! The celebrations then carrying on into the night with disco & karaoke for those who want to stay later. There will also be a competion to find a Carnival Prince and Princess for the Festival. open to children aged between 5 & 10 years of age. This will be judged at approx 1.30pm. Many of the activities wil be outside but marquees are at the ready if the weather is unkind!
Sunday 3rd June
Edmund Hall Family Fun Day Fun for all the family with games, competitions and stalls at Edmund Hall from 11am to 4pm. Civic Church Service, St Werburgh's Church An all faith service is being held at 3pm at St Werburgh’s Church to commemorate the Queen's Jubilee. BBQ and large screen coverage of the Thames Jubilee Flotilla The Village Club host a family BBQ from 2pm, featuring live coverage on the big screen of the Jubilee Flotilla. The Flotilla will see over 1,000 vessels of all types sailing up the River Thames in London to celebrate the Jubilee, led by the Queen and family members aboard the Royal Barge.
Monday 4th June
BEACON JUBILEE PARTY The Spondon Jubilee Weekend is rounded off with this evening party on Dale Road Park, culminating in the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon and a large professional fireworks display. The event runs from 8pm to 10.30pm with the Mayor of Derby lighting the Beacon at around 10pm as Spondon joins the chain of over 2000 beacons being lit across the country to mark the Jubilee. The event will include numerous stalls, fun and entertainment for the kids, food/drink and more.

Spondon Queen’s Jubilee House decorating Competition
Spondon Jubilee Committee are running a house decorating competition. We are asking Spondon Residents to decorate their houses in a Jubilee theme. The winners will receive a gift voucher from B&Q. The decorations will also compliment the Spondon Traders Association and the Village Improvement Committees efforts to decorate the Village! Houses will be judged over the Jubilee weekend with the winner announced at the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon on Monday 4th June. Spondon Queen’s Jubilee Quilt Asterdale WI have very kindly agreed to sew together a Jubilee Quilt that we are hoping will be hung on display in the Village. What the Jubilee Committee are asking individuals, groups or organisations in Spondon to do is to submit a 15cm x 15cm cloth square with a design on it that represents you group or organisation. Please send finished squares to Councillor Evonne Williams via the address below or email Evonne and she will collect them from you.
Primary School visits to local care homes As part of the celebrations, children from each of Spondon's Primary Schools will be visiting various care homes in the area to help the elderly residents enjoy a Jubilee party, including performances from each school's choirs.
